Main contractors we have worked for

Ballast Nedam, Al Qalab Cons., Güryapı, Ars Dizayn, Alfa Terrazzo, Elips Yapı Kimyasalları and Şekerci İnşaat. Building owners on the list include Ora İnşaat, for its own head office in Dudullu. Working as a specialist subcontractor usually means the floor package is built into another company's programme and handed over through that contractor.

The system behind these jobs is described on our epoxy terrazzo flooring page. The sections below take the projects one group at a time.

Airport terrazzo flooring: Princess Juliana International Airport, Sint Maarten

We laid airport terrazzo flooring in the terminal at Princess Juliana International Airport on Sint Maarten for the main contractor Ballast Nedam. The airport is on Sint Maarten, in the Caribbean.

What an airport floor has to do

  • Carry continuous footfall, rolling luggage, trolleys and cleaning machines without losing its finish
  • Stay seamless across large concourses, where grout lines would fill with dirt and crack under wheels
  • Carry the terminal's design: colour fields, borders and wayfinding lines set into the floor
  • Be cleaned at night by scrubber-driers, quickly and without damage
  • Go down within a fixed construction programme, alongside other trades

Working on overseas island sites

Overseas island projects generally add lead times for materials and equipment, and the climate on the day of each pour has to be planned for. Resin, aggregate and machinery have to be on site before work starts, because a missing component cannot be collected the next morning. Heat and humidity also have to be controlled while the resin cures.

Airport terrazzo flooring is usually specified with divider strips aligned to the slab's movement joints, a crack-isolation membrane where the structure is expected to move, and a sealer matched to the cleaning chemicals the terminal will use. Colour fields are often used for wayfinding, guiding passengers from check-in to security and gates without signs on the floor.

Al-Afaf Mall and other projects in Iraq

Al Qalab Cons. appointed us to lay epoxy terrazzo throughout the Al-Afaf Mall in Karbala, Iraq. For the same client we also applied road line paint and direction signs in Karbala.

Why malls choose terrazzo

Mall concourses take the heaviest footfall of almost any interior, along with cleaning machines and deliveries to the shops. Terrazzo gives a seamless, polished floor across the concourse, holds its finish, and lets the designer carry the mall's colours and patterns into the floor. Repairs and regrinding are local and do not mean lifting tiles.

Other work in Iraq

  • Dalotürk İnşaat, Süleymaniye–Kirkuk: polyurethane concrete floor
  • Detay Yapı, Karbala: multi layer textured epoxy, and polyurethane liquid membrane waterproofing
  • Al Qalab Cons., Karbala: road line paint and direction markings

For Middle East and Gulf projects, the practical questions are the same each time: material lead times and customs, the climate during application, site security and access, and who signs off each stage. These are usually settled with the main contractor before mobilisation. In hot climates, resin pot life shortens sharply, so mixing is often scheduled for the cooler hours and materials are stored out of direct sun.

The polyurethane concrete page explains the system used on the Kirkuk project.

Mosque terrazzo flooring: Çamlıca Mosque, Istanbul

We installed epoxy terrazzo at Çamlıca Mosque in Istanbul for the main contractor Güryapı. It is a public building used by large numbers of visitors.

What a mosque floor needs

  • Large seamless areas that suit the scale of the building and its open spaces
  • Geometric patterns and borders laid into the floor to match the architecture
  • A surface that stays clean and hygienic under heavy visitor numbers, especially on Fridays and religious holidays
  • Slip resistance appropriate to areas near ablution rooms and entrances where floors can get wet
  • Long life with routine maintenance, since a major mosque is not closed for floor replacement

Pattern and craft

Mosque terrazzo flooring draws on the same tools as any decorative terrazzo: divider strips bent to the drawing, colour fields poured one by one, and grinding that reveals the stone. The difference is scale and precision. A border that runs the length of a hall has to stay straight and consistent from one end to the other, and every colour field has to match the approved sample.

For architects working on mosques and religious complexes in the Middle East, Central Asia or Europe, this project is the closest reference we can offer. Send us your drawings and we can discuss pattern and aggregate options.

Cruise port, civic buildings and hospitals

Beyond the airport and the mosque, our public-sector terrazzo work includes the first phase of the Galataport cruise port at Salıpazarı in Istanbul, the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality service building and three Istanbul hospitals.

Galataport Salıpazarı cruise port, phase 1

A cruise terminal behaves much like an airport: waves of passengers with luggage, a public interior that has to look good on every arrival, and cleaning between sailings. Terrazzo gives the seamless, durable floor that this pattern of use needs.

Bursa Metropolitan Municipality service building

Laid for Elips Yapı Kimyasalları. For Elips we also laid the building's car park floor, and multi layer epoxy at the Timsah Arena stadium in Bursa. Civic buildings of this kind are usually specified for slip resistance and easy cleaning, because the public uses the entrance halls and corridors all day and the floor is cleaned while the building stays open.

Hospitals

  • Yeditepe University Oncology Hospital, Koşuyolu, Istanbul
  • Memorial Ataşehir Hospital, Istanbul
  • Memorial Şişli Hospital, Istanbul

Hospitals value terrazzo for hygiene: the floor has no grout lines and no open pores, so it is easier to keep clean in corridors, waiting areas and treatment rooms. It also carries beds, trolleys and equipment carts without denting, and can include colour-coded wayfinding to guide patients and visitors through the building.

Malls, retail, hotels, offices and homes

Commercial interiors are one of the groups on our terrazzo list. They range from regional malls to single stores, from thermal hotels to cafes, and from head offices to private villas.

Malls and retail

  • Optimum İzmir mall, for Ars Dizayn
  • Novada mall, Yozgat
  • Nike store, Ankamall, Ankara, for Güryapı
  • Arçelik stores in Konak, İzmir (for Alfa Terrazzo) and Bostancı, Istanbul
  • Kahve Dünyası, Veliefendi, Istanbul, for Alfa Terrazzo
  • Nata Vega terrazzo renewal, for Güryapı and Alfa Terrazzo

Hotels and hospitality

  • White Tuana Thermal Hotel, Yalova
  • Trendy Lara Hotel, Antalya
  • Fami Cafe, Hilton Altunizade, Istanbul, for Şekerci İnşaat

Offices, homes and Galatasaray Island

  • Stenkim head office and Ora İnşaat head office in Dudullu, Istanbul
  • A villa in Çayyolu for Çetin İşletmeleri, and residences at Bilkent Kalyon, Ankara, both for Şekerci İnşaat
  • Galatasaray Island, Istanbul, for Şekerci İnşaat

Retail fit-outs tend to have fixed opening dates and short windows on site, so the floor programme is planned backwards from the opening. Hotels and homes ask more of the design: custom colours, softer aggregates and a finish that suits furniture and rugs. Pharma terrazzo, a granite-look epoxy mortar that we list as a separate system (Epoksi granit görünüm), was laid at MAN Türkiye's Ankara customer centre and vehicle handover showroom and at Arven İlaç's plant in Kırklareli; these two jobs are not among the 23.

Polyurethane concrete and industrial floor projects

Alongside terrazzo we lay polyurethane concrete, antistatic epoxy and other resin floors for production, defence-industry, pharmaceutical and logistics sites. These are the floors behind the public-facing ones: production halls, paint shops, warehouses and car parks.

Polyurethane concrete

  • Süleymaniye–Kirkuk, Iraq, for Dalotürk İnşaat
  • Ankara, the CKD building of Türk Traktör
  • Ankara, a DHMİ floor laid for Balaban İnşaat
  • Polyurethane concrete for Aselsan and MAN Türkiye

Antistatic and chemical-resistant epoxy

  • Sun İnşaat: antistatic epoxy at Aselsan Macunköy, Ankara
  • Aselsan Macunköy printed-circuit area: chemical-resistant self-levelling epoxy
  • EST Endüstri, İvedik: chemical-resistant self-levelling epoxy

Other industrial and public work

  • OBD Construction: self-levelling epoxy, Kandahar, Afghanistan
  • Elit Proje Elron İnşaat: self-levelling epoxy at the TCDD Hasanbey logistics base, Eskişehir
  • MAN Türkiye paint shop, Henkel's Hasanoğlan plant and T-Kalıp: multi layer textured epoxy
  • Vilsan İlaç, Arma İlaç and İstem Medikal: self-levelling epoxy
  • Taşova Municipality, Amasya: acrylic sports floor

Self-levelling and multi layer epoxy both appear on our industrial list. Some sites appear on it more than once. At Aselsan the list names self-levelling, chemical-resistant and antistatic epoxy, the antistatic job through Sun İnşaat and the Akyurt job through BGS İnşaat. At MAN Türkiye it names pharma terrazzo, multi layer textured epoxy in the paint shop, and orange-peel epoxy in the warehouse through BGS İnşaat.

Using our references for your own project

The most useful references are epoxy terrazzo projects of the same building type and scale as yours, delivered for a main contractor under conditions like those on your site. Match on use first, then on scale, then on location.

Match the use

A terminal floor and a hotel lobby use the same system but face different traffic, cleaning and design demands. If your building is a terminal or port, look at Sint Maarten and Galataport; for worship and civic buildings, Çamlıca Mosque and the Bursa municipality building; for healthcare, the three Istanbul hospitals; for retail, the malls and stores.

Match the scale

Large floors test planning, material supply and colour consistency across many pours, while small floors test detailing at thresholds, columns and shopfronts. Tell us the scale of your floor and we can name the jobs on our list that are closest in type.

Match the delivery model

Our overseas epoxy terrazzo projects, in Sint Maarten and Karbala, both came through main contractors. If your project runs the same way, the questions that matter are programme, hold points, site conditions during curing and the handover to the client's facility team. These are best settled at tender stage.

For industrial floors, use the polyurethane concrete and antistatic references in the section above in the same way.

Discuss your project with us

If your project is a terminal, a mall, a mosque, a hospital or a production plant, send us the drawings and we will tell you which of our jobs is the closest match and how we would approach yours. Email info@2epyapi.com or call +90 312 276 13 76.

  • Project name, country and city
  • Main contractor and current stage: design, tender or construction
  • Floor areas by use, with plans
  • Design intent for terrazzo: colours, aggregate, patterns
  • Duty for industrial floors: loads, temperatures, chemicals

A tender package usually needs the reference list with the client and location of each job; ask for it when you enquire, and name the building types you want to compare. If the design is still open, we can suggest where terrazzo and where PU concrete belong in the building, based on how each area is used, loaded and cleaned. Early contact helps most on overseas work and on large phased programmes, where material lead times and travel shape the start date.
